On the 14th of June we were met by Anderson at the ferry port of Porto Novo. Anderson drove us to the north of the island and provided both taxi services (together with Denis) as multiple guided hiking tours in the upcoming days. We did the following hiking tours:

– XoXo

– Paul Cove

– Cha de Pedra

During the taxi rides and hiking tours, Anderson and Denis provided great knowledge of the local nature, the local farmers and their history. Every hike included a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Having Anderson as a guide added a great value to the hikes and our experince. Due to the fact that Anderson owns two cars, the hikes are not limited to being a loop, but can be tailored to personal preferences.

The services of Anderson and Denis can only be described as outstanding. Both share an enormous love for the nature and culture of Santo Antao, which they passed on to us through all their stories and insights of the island. Their enthousiasm, humor and wit are highly contagious and we valued our time with them greatly.

We are hoping to visit Santo Antao again soon!

Wat een fantastische dag hebben wij met onze gids Denis gehad. Gestart boven in de bergen waar het nog mistig was en motregende. Toen naar beneden gelopen. Denis nam ruim de tijd om met trots te vertellen over ‘zijn’ vallei, fruit werd onderweg geproefd, enthousiaste uitleg over de flora en fauna onderweg. Echt een aanrader!

I am surprised that Denis’ guided island tour is not yet among the 15 … He is very relaxed and makes you feel comfortable all trip long, is gentle and clever, self-taught English speaking (mainly from watching English & American movies and series during Covid !), a careful driver and a man with a plan (one day buy his own pick-up truck !). We enjoyed every minute of the tour.

After our stay in Santo Antão we spent some days in Tarrafal (Santiago) and the receptionist turned out to be one of Denis’ friends. He almost literally confirmed my words 🙂

We did the islandtour on Santo Antão with Denis and he took us up the volcano Cova de Paúl. Denis is a very experienced guide. He told a lot about the history, the culture and the nature of the island. There is always time to stop and take pictures, there is no stress! 😎 We enjoyed his company very much and would recommend him strongly as a guide. If we ever come back to Santo Antão for sure we will take another hike with Denis!

When we visited Santo Antão in January this year (2024) we had an island tour with Denis as our guide, and it completed our stay on Santo Antão! Denis told us with love, passion and pride about “his” island and took us to the most beautiful places… We were given all the space to take pictures, nothing was too much for him… He took us to a local restaurant where we had a delicious meal. Denis speaks English very well and drove us around in a very comfortable car!

He told us about his dreams too, and one of them was to have his own company to give tourists a great time on Santo Antão. He also wanted his own website and now this dream has become reality…. We couldn’t have wished for a better guide! Denis, we wish you all the best and are convinced that you also can make all your other dreams come true!

Last march we booked the island tour recommended by Voja travel. It became a very beautiful day and it was great to experience the love and pride of our guide Denis for his island Santo Antao and the efforts he is making to be the perfect guide. He tells beautiful (personal) stories, knows a lot about the island and it’s history and is very enthusiastic in sharing all he knows! He takes you to the most beautiful places and we had a great lunch in a local restaurant. We really became to love Santo Antao and would recommend this special tour when you want to know more about this beautiful island!

After a walk we were just looking for a taxi back to our hotel. Denis suggested us for more than a ride back. He took us to a beautiful waterfall where we could cool off with lots of fun. A real icing on the cake of a wonderful day.

Denis took us on the island tour. It was a super nice day. We enjoyed the views and the nice meal in this charming restaurant. Denis gave us a lot of explanations. He’s also a really good driver.

After this great first experience we booked the hike to the Vinha waterfall. It was also a beautiful and joyful experience for us.

Last April Denis gave us an island tour around Santo Antao. And I can only say one thing: it was amazing.

I think one of the biggest advantage is that Denis can speak English very well, which is for us very important.

He told us so much about the island, about the history and how people live there now. You can tell how much he loves the island.

He was very enthusiastic and showed us the most beautiful places.

We also tried local food and drinks, of the local people and restaurants which was great.

And also very important, the car was very comfortable 😉

Last winter we hat a island tour with this organization and it was wonderful! Denis is a skilled tour guide who knows everything about the island. And if you have wishes he will do his best to for fill them. My wife wanted a picture with a big banana tree. And Denis took us to a great location for the picture.

Denis spreekt goed Engels en verteld op een prettige manier alles wat je van het eiland wil weten. Doordat hij ook vertelde over zijn persoonlijke leven leerde wij ook meer over de cultuur van de bewoners van het eiland.

Voor ons een heerlijke dag Kaap Verdie, een mooie ervaring rijker.

I was in Santo Antao at the end of February 2024 with travel agency Voja Travel. Dennys is a member of the very hospitable local Voja team. But he is also available for hire as a personal guide… His island tour was very interesting. He also organized everything perfectly for the famous hike Cova de Paul – Ribeira de Paul (and of course, he went along himself). His dream: to own a house and a car, so please give him a generous tip!

Mas ele também está disponível para contratar como guia pessoal… Seu tour pela ilha foi muito interessante. Ele também organizou tudo perfeitamente para a famosa caminhada Cova de Paul – Ribeira de Paul (e é claro que ele foi junto).
